I have a lot of photogs from my travels and I would like to share them more often if that is okay. I know, I know. Put down the camera and enjoy the moment… but the memory is so much more memorable if you have a pretty visual to look back on.

First up, my fisheye camera via my 2007 adventures.

Rotan, Honduras

Semuc Champay, Guatemala. I highly recommend you google image this goodness. You might not be able to tell, but that is a series of turquoise pools that you can swim in once you hike down.

Antigua, Guatemala and the Buena Vista Social Club cover band. Salsa madness. Anyone know if a BVSC cover band exists in DC?

Happy Friday Friends!

P.S. There is a lot more to those images then meets the eye. I will save it for another post, but these were taken a few weeks after I had met Sam and I decided to leave the US for five months. Needless to say, I was back in the US four months early. Hmmm…

Blogger confession: I am really horrible at cooking. Like really bad. Me and a stove top/oven/toaster/microwave do not get along. I have no idea how I am the odd one out because the rest of the women in my family are phenomenal cooks. I also am pretty bummed that when I do try it really just never tastes as good as when my mom cooks its. It also stinks because my mom makes a crazy good paella, arroz con pollo, and ajiaco. It is the family tradition that I just don’t get to have a hand in.

Luckily Sam is an incredible cook, and my mom has taught him how to cook some of our family dishes. Thank goodness or I probably would be eating tv dinners on the regular.

Here are some of Sam’s specials:

Homemade juice made of carrot, orange, and a splash of ginger.

Banana bread with chocolate chips and walnuts.

Steamed broccoli with radish and scallions + a sauteed spinach and mushroom and a light lemon pepper butter sauce +free range grass fed chicken.

For him cooking is a calming act to a stressful day and he likes the idea of cooking and eating the freshest ingredients possible. For me cooking turns me into a hot mess and I rather spend my energy elsewhere. One day I swear…

*Blogger Confessions is a new series that a few bloggers in the DC area have decided to participate in. It hopes to capture the multifacted lives that many bloggers live in, but sometimes is not highlighted in our blogs. In short we are trying to go beyond the pretty pink shoes and share a side of us that you often don’t see, and we do not want to start a whole new blog to share!

You can check out our last confessions on relationships here.

We are about two weeks and counting from hopping on a plane to Palm Springs, CA to see two of our bestest friends in the world getting married. We are STOKED for the nuptials and the serious pal pool time that will be happening at our hotel. So that being said, most posts will be inspired by that feeling of the oh so dry heat that you can only get from the desert sun.

First up my plane outfit.

Tee ($40)/ Shorts ($115)/ Sunglasses ($95)/Loafers ($79)/Weekender ($275)

And as promised, all items featured are eco or social cause friendly!

Richard Hamilton

Man, I don’t know about you girls and guys, but I have been obsessing over neutrals in all forms from dresses, pants, shoes to hats and nailpolish. I just love it. Nothing makes my life easier and more stylish than adding fun neutrals to my wardrobe with other neutrals or an occassional pop of neon color. Simple, quick and easy style on the go. That is why I was so inspired by this work by artist Richard Hamilton. Just in love, plain and simple. I know you have some neutrals in your closet and it’s time to mix and match them for a style that will keep you looking fashionable in under 10 minutes.

Everyone welcome Marley aka Marzipan, Marzy Pants, Mar Mar to the fam! Yes we got another dog. But I swear it was unexpected. This is what happened….

Danny (see above and we swear he is not a dingo) had to be put in doggie daycare for a few weeks while a sub pump was installed in our apartment. During that time, the daycare, Wagtime, was fostering the adorable dog above. Her and Danny fell in love. They followed each other around, they slept in the same doggie bed, they would whine when they were separated. In short they were soul mates.

So Wagtime eagerly tried to persuade us to adopt Marley, and we said we would think about it. Another dog, really?!?! We brought Danny back home, and he was super depressed. We had never seen him like that. He waddled around, slept a lot, and his tail wagged a little less. So after two weeks of dealing with depressed Danny, we decided it was cruel to keep him away from his lover.

And two weeks later we adopted Marley (dalmatian and something mix) and could not be happier! She is the biggest cuddle bug and wears Danny out during the day so we come home to now two very calm dogs. Talking about her cuddle habits, she does this crazy thing, where she will come up on the bed and go straight under the covers head first, slam her body against you and sleep there for hours on end. Anyone have any idea what this is about? I am always scared she will suffocate, but so far so good.

Anyways welcome Marley everyone! :)

p.s. if you are looking for a dog to adopt we HIGHLY recommend checking out Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. That is where we have adopted both of the dogs from and they are the best. And if you are looking for a reliable, super friendly, and wonderful doggie daycare check out Wagtime. They work with Lucky Dog to foster dogs who need a home and some love.

David Hockney

This week’s art piece inspiration is by artist David Hockney. I just love the modern lines, bold colors and sheer simplicity. This work just screams spring and summer time which is a perfect excuse to go scouting for some sun and fun fashion inspiration. Warm colors, simple forms, no frou frou just simple style. Can’t go wrong with that!

I posted this image a few weeks ago on Facebook, and decided to post it again as a reminder for myself. In addition to a good quote, I wanted to share some articles I have found fascinating lately on leadership, productivity, and creativity to get that innovation mojo flowing.

Fashion with a conscious. Check out how GAP and other companies are recycling jeans and using them to insulate homes built by Habitat for Humanity.

DC’s Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden will be turned inside out between March 22nd and May 13th. The building will be turned to a giant cinema screen streaming videos and accompanied by music.

How to cultivate genius.

How to not get overwhelmed by office technology and be more productive.

Most important quality of a good leader– solitude.

The power of vulnerability. I also like this article by the same speaker that came out today in the Washington Post– A Love Note To The Workaholic.

Have you heard of “The Color Run?” I first learned about it from the blog plenty of colour and became pretty obsessed.

The idea is simple but awesome. Wear a white shirt, run 5 kilometers, and get doused in color all along the way.

Check out when the Color Run is coming to your city. I will be participating on September 22nd!
